Utilising primarily the IPSTAR two-way satellite system, the Farmside broadband network spans New Zealand, offering broadband access to all rural and provincial dwellers, regardless of distance from an urban centre, isolated location or challenging topography. All you need is a clear view of the western sky from your home.
Installation of satellite broadband does not require the construction of towers, or the addition of lines (overhead or underground), therefore provides an environmentally friendly option that will also help rural dwellers reduce the number of vehicle trips to town for banking, shopping, research and other activities that can easily be carried out using fast internet. We have estimated that a full uptake of broadband in rural New Zealand could ultimately save 500 million km of vehicle use over a period of 10 years, saving some 120,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Based in Timaru, South Canterbury, Farmside is New Zealand's primary IPSTAR satellite service provider, with several thousand farmers and other rural dwellers already connected. Hundreds more join every month from all over New Zealand.
Farmside services include 100% rural broadband, mobile solutions and associated computer and networking equipment to enable integrated connectivity. In the near future, Farmside will also launch new services including IP-voice packages, Video-on-Demand and IPTV.
You can purchase Farmside rural broadband at a discounted rate by either a direct debit option or, if you are a member of one of our rural supply partners (ATS, CRT, Elders, Farmlands, PGG Wrightson or RD1), you can purchase broadband on your monthly supply account, and attract further discounts.
Farmside rural broadband plans start from $89.00 per month (ex GST) which includes the monthly access fee, monthly broadband service fee and equipment. Speed options range from 256kb/128kb to 2Mb/1Mb.
