BUILDING WITH PALLETS
Friday, March 02, 2012 - Sunday, March 04, 2012
Pallet madness
Mark Fielding, director of Solabode Ltd - Affordable Eco Homes, is asking for expressions of interest from anyone who might be keen to participate in a workshop held in central Nelson to learn skills in building with wooden pallets and other recycled waste materials.
Mark and his team have already successfully built a 10m2 cabin and other small buildings using these materials - in full accordance with NZ Building Code compliance requirements*.
Mark is an Eco House designer with more than 30 year's experience and a Licenced Building practitioner (Cat 2 design), he has a passion for trying to change the way we look at home design and the materials we use in an attempt to slow down the rapid decline of our planets resources and environment.
Workshop #1 will start in early March on a Friday evening extending over the weekend and will demonstrate sourcing materials, structural assembly of timber frames from wooden pallets, insulation and lining with other waste materials and finally finishing with a natural paint.
If interest allows, a second workshop will be held to partially construct a small cabin using the prefab panels made in workshop #1. Costs for each workshop will depend on numbers interested, allow around $150 plus GST each for the 3 day workshop, places limited. Tea and coffee only provided.
*NB The Building Code performance requirement solutions used in the design and construction of pallet buildings have not yet been processed by a building consent application.
Please respond to mark@solabode.co.nz for more information.
