Ecofest – learning to live the green life
Thursday, August 07, 2008
The 2008 Ecofest expo is on 16 and 17 August and is being held at Founders Park this year, due to the renovations at the Trafalgar Centre. The expo will be a fun-filled family day out with something for everyone to get their hands on. Have a go at the Follow the Footprints competition to win a $200 Mitre 10 Mega Voucher, or a Centameter to measure power use at home.
For those building or renovating their homes there will be products, workshops and seminars on solar design, energy efficiency, insulation and sustainable architecture, with $3000 of home insulation to be won from Absolute Energy.
If growing your own vegetables appeals, there will be advice on growing and composting with the Create Your Own Eden programme, worm farms, weed control and Bokashi – and a chance to win a compost bin every hour!
Saving water and recycling are a big part of the whole Ecofest message so come and have a look at the ideas on show – how to re-use your grey water, reduce your water bills, and produce less waste.
Kid’s corner will be a great place to drop the kids off while you explore. It will have art and crafts, worm farms, activities, and a chance to win lots of prizes - including two mountain bikes.
Feeling peckish? Pop into the organic food court and try out some local organic produce – there will be tips and tastings to enjoy.
Getting to Ecofest is easy – just hop on a free bus around Nelson or the free double-decker bus leaving from Richmond– details in Live Nelson or Newsline magazine.
