Who is the South Island’s most sustainable business?
Wednesday, August 06, 2008
The hunt for the South Island’s most sustainable business has moved one step closer now this year’s finalists have been selected.
Entries for the Sustainable Business Network Southern Region Awards, which closed on 31 July, were received from businesses of all sizes operating in diverse industries across the South Island.
Jan Harrison, Regional Manager of the Sustainable Business Network’s Southern office, says the Awards celebrate the achievements of South Island companies who have grasped the opportunities created by society’s changing expectations, and who are focused on becoming better businesses from the point of view of their people, profit and the environment.
“Business has a defining role in assisting New Zealand become a more sustainable nation. And these finalists represent those businesses that are focused on embracing new technologies and doing their bit to ensure the needs of future generations can be met.”
To enter the awards, businesses participated in the Sustainable Business Network’s ‘Get Sustainable Challenge’, covering eight identified areas of sustainable practice; or entered the Sustainable Design and Innovation Award that covers products, services, and buildings.
The finalists for the 2008 Southern Region awards are:

Geoff Henderson, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Windflow Technology Limited and winner of last year’s Southern Region Product Design and Innovation Award, says the win was a huge motivator for his team.
“Winning the award generated recognition from our peers throughout the Sustainable Business Network and was a great morale booster for the Windflow team after many years of hard work”.
The awards will be held at a semi-formal cocktail evening at 6pm on Wednesday, 20 August at the Southern Encounter Aquarium and Kiwi House in Christchurch’s Cathedral Square.
Winners of the regional awards automatically progress to the nationwide NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards to be announced in Auckland on 9 October.
Tickets are limited and cost $30 per person. To reserve a seat please email Carolyn at southern@sustainable.org.nz before 10 August.
