Sustainable Housing - ABSA Conference - Australia New Zealand

Thursday, August 28, 2008 - Saturday, August 30, 2008
The conference is targeted at Australian and New Zealand assessors, housing industry representatives, government policy makers, academics, students as well as businesses, individuals and organisations interested in the measurement of sustainability in the residential housing sectors. Through participation as a sponsor or exhibitor at this event you will meet one-on-one with individuals associated with building design, construction, assessment, regulations, goods and services, or the development of tools or support services.
The Association of Building Sustainability Assessors (ABSA) is a not-for-profit incorporated organisation that represents building and design professionals who specialise in assessing the environmental impact of buildings.

ABSA was established under the Associations Incorporated Act NSW on 10 October 2003 by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (now the Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability), the House Energy Rating Management Board (HMB) and building industry professional associations. During 2005 – 2006 ABSA applied to become a National Company. As of 15 September 2006 ABSA was registered as a Company limited by guarantee under the Corporations ACT 2001.

ABSA accredits assessors to conduct assessments required by certain building and planning regulations, such as the Building Code of Australia and the NSW Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) Thermal Comfort Simulation Method. Assessors must complete rigorous training and examination, and are subject to auditing. They’re backed by Professional Indemnity Insurance and meet ABSA requirements for quality assurance and continuing professional development. Through its programs, the organisation enables building professionals to understand, analyse and improve the sustainability of the built environment. As part of its mandate, ABSA’s objectives include: Accreditation for assessors to conduct building sustainability assessments;

Professional development and other training and support services for accredited assessors; Information assistance and seminars for councils, professionals and consumers; and

Development of building sustainability regulations and policies at federal, state and local government levels. ABSA is a membership-based organisation. Its current membership includes around 500 accredited assessors. Its activities and direction are determined by its members, and all funds raised are used for providing member services.

ABSA members can take advantage of the training, support and resources provided by the Association at discounted rates.
